How we use AI agents in our Work Sample Tests

The past few years have seen significant advancements in AI that have the potential to revolutionise hiring and talent management. One of the most significant advancements is agentic AI. This technology allows complex tasks to be automated and provides almost limitless opportunities for HR management.

At SeeTalent, we’re using state-of-the-art techniques that combine psychometric expertise and agentic AI to create engaging and accurate work sample tests to measure candidates’ ability and identify top talent.

What are AI agents?

Put simply, AI agents are generative AI models that perform a specified task autonomously. Agents are underpinned by large language models, such as GPT, that have been prompted to carry out complex tasks. In HR, this task could be reaching out to applicants that have passed psychometric assessments to schedule an interview, providing feedback based on a personality profile, or answering candidate questions, for example.

SeeTalent’s Work Sample Tests

SeeTalent’s agentic AI powered Work Sample Tests are a flexible, scalable solution for measuring what applicants can do rather than what they could do. Unlike CVs, which can be a poor representation of experience and ability, and other forms of assessment that aim to predict a candidate’s potential, work sample tests measure a candidate’s skills and ability directly and can provide insights into their job suitability, coachability or learning ability.

Looking at this raw talent makes onboarding and training easy, as baseline ability has already been determined. It’s also a great way to track the effectiveness of training and coaching over time.

Powered by agentic AI

Using state-of-the-art approaches, SeeTalent’s Work Sample Tests use agents to simulate realistic work-based scenarios that candidates must navigate to achieve a specified goal or outcome.

Through their interactions with the agents, candidates’ fit for the role can be evaluated rapidly based on the outcome, how they got to it, and the language they used. This includes key insights on their:

  • Personality
  • Problem-solving ability
  • Communication skills
  • Logic and reasoning

Customisable for any role or level

Our Agentic AI Work Sample Tests are fully customisable to suit any industry, role, and level of seniority by changing the scenario and/or personality of the agents:

  • Role and company specific scenarios – Agents can be provided with detailed information (true or fictious) about the company, role, constraints and more to really simulate a given role.
  • Graduate and early careers scenarios – Using a broader scenario and higher-level information, applicants for high-volume roles, such as graduate pathways, can be evaluated using a single, broader assessment with ease.

Ethical AI powered by science

With over 30 academic papers on AI, ethics, and psychometrics, SeeTalent’s team are experts in ethical AI. We combine scientific measurement with ethical AI to ensure that our solutions conform to rigorous fairness and safety standards. An ethical and fair approach to hiring is considered right from the design stages and our assessments are built to be compliant with emerging and existing laws.

Our assessments are validated using representative samples and meet the same standards as traditional assessments, meaning you don’t have to compromise on applicant quality. With SeeTalent’s Agentic Work Sample Tests, you can have peace of mind that you’re hiring top talent fairly.

Powered by large language models (LLMs), AI agents can be prompted (instructed) to carry out tasks to narrow specifications, and can even work in tandem with each other to handle complex tasks and provide a more enriched, seamless experience.

Psychometric assessments are an essential talent management tool. They can be used during recruitment to evaluate job applicants and identify the strongest talent as well as during the talent management lifecycle for applications such as coaching and development. However, the utility of psychometric assessments for both test-takers and talent managers is reduced if reports are poor quality, too high-level, do not provide personalised insights, or are missing altogether.

Why you should use work sample tests in your recruitment funnel instead of CVs

Almost every job opening asks applicants to provide their CV and/or fill in an application form that largely contains information that would be included in a CV, such as education and past experience. This is typically the first step in the process. Due to the large volume of applicants, mechanisms are used to screen applicants and reduce the size of the applicant pool so that resources can be invested into applicants that demonstrate more promise. While this makes intuitive sense, evidence shows us that CVs are bad predictors of future job performance.
